Ellery House, Castlemaine, Victoria
This high care residential aged care facility in Castlemaine, Victoria has 60 beds and was designed to reflect the interconnection between a sense of home and community.
The layout of the facility is unique due to the steep grade of the site and the need for a level platform where aged residents can move freely - both inside the buildings and outside in the landscaped gardens with views overlooking the township and surrounding hills. The design of this single level facility references a simple style of weatherboard architecture typical of many of the houses in the area. Environmentally sustainable design principles are used to provide maximum comfort by maximizing natural light to all spaces and utilising natural solar energy and cross-ventilation.
