Seymour Pioneers Memorial

Seymour Pioneers Memorial, Victoria

Dedicated to the pioneers of Seymour, this memorial represents life and its transition through time. The angled ellipse depicts the continuous cycle of life, while the vertical spaces in the curved bluestone wall metaphorically portray life's progress in phases. The rough cut granite columns - which are remnants of surrounds from the early graves - represent the life cycle, from birth in the east, to maturity and finally death in the west. The memorial, much like life itself, has no protective roof, exposing the memorial's components to the elements of nature.
