JACARANDA VILLAGE RESIDENTIAL CARE

Jacaranda Village is a residential care facility of 75 beds located in Red Cliffs, Victoria. The model of care is based on the Eden Alternative Philosophy, which advocates for a person-centred approach to care and, in particular, promotes residents making choices in their daily lives to prevent feelings of boredom and loneliness.

The design requirements of this philosophy have resulted in replicating elements that one finds living in a local community: a shopping arcade, cafe, milk bar, news agency, hairdresser and post office, as well as child play areas to encourage visits by families with children.

The architectural language of the village is residential and provides both intimate and communal internal and external spaces. The layout is composed of interlinked houses with their own internal courtyards. Each house is identified by its form and facade treatment and all the houses communicate with the street precinct and other communal gardens and courtyard. As such residents can wander freely and feel a sense of autonomy within the environment.

A valued asset to Melbourne Polytechnic’s refurbished Greensborough Campus is the Melbourne Innovation Centre, an internationally acclaimed business incubator providing expertise, training, programs and networks to help grow sustainable business enterprises, create work opportunities and boost economic development.

At the Greensborough facility there is a collaborative working space for up to 30 people, as well as 24 offices—including some with sliding partitions to form larger areas—a breakout area and a mixture of small-to-medium-sized meeting rooms.

The success of the Melbourne Innovation Centre is contingent upon the cross-pollination of ideas. Tectura’s design supports this by providing a plethora of flexible work spaces to choose from to nurture spontaneous discussion and idea generation.
